SS American Victory Offers "Front
Row’ Seating for July 4 Channelside District Fireworks
Ship Affords Spectacular Views of ‘Patriotic
Pyrotechnics’ High Above Garrison Channel
TAMPA, FL June
20, 2008 - - For the eighth consecutive year,
the SS American Victory celebrates Independence Day on
Friday, July 4 with special pricing for its
Restoration Tours and by offering ‘front row seating’
for viewing the "Fireworks at Channelside" spectacle.
Visitors can enjoy an
up-close and unobstructed view of the bone-shaking
fireworks from the ship’s weather decks, 50 feet above
Garrison Channel and less than 100 yards from the
barge firing the pyrotechnics. Fireworks begin at 9
PM.
On Friday, July 4, the
ship opens at 10 AM for its popular self-guided
Restoration Tours, providing visitors an up-close view
of the on-going work of restoring the 63-year old
merchant cargo vessel into a mariner’s museum and
cruising ship.
An ‘All-Day’ admission of
$10 per person, with special rates for kids 12 and
under, allows guests to tour the ship during the day
and return for the evening fireworks at no additional
cost. Visitors boarding the ship after 5 PM for the
fireworks pay $5 per person.
Picnic-style food and
refreshments will be available from 3 PM onward.
Musical entertainment by the band ’23 Skidoo’ will be
available from 6:30 PM -8:30 PM. For more
information, call (813) 228-8766, e-mail
amvic@americanvictory.org or visit

The American Victory is
berthed in Tampa’s Channelside District, adjacent to
the Florida Aquarium. Parking is available in the
Aquarium Parking Lot or the Port Authority Garage.
The historic American
Victory, built in 1945, served during World War II and
the Korean and Vietnam wars, carrying ‘guns, gear,
grub and gas’ and other supplies to GIs. This icon of
America’s merchant maritime might is being restored
into a world class mariner’s museum and makes periodic
day cruises on Tampa Bay. The next cruise is set for
Saturday, November 8.
