Washington, D.C.
The SS American Victory was named by the U.S. Maritime
Administration to honor American University in
Washington, D.C., for its contributions to weapons
training during both World War I and World War II. The
school has a new Public History program, which will work
together with American Victory Mariners Memorial &
Museum Ship volunteers to create an oral history of the
ship, the experiences of the men who sailed her and
Merchant Mariners who served during World II, the Korean
War and Vietnam War.

Marine site - The site has several pages describing

Gulfcoast Transit
-, a subsidiary of TECO Energy, provided over $200,000
in towing services to bring the SS American Victory from
the James River Reserve Fleet in Virginia to Tampa Bay
in September 1999. The valiant crew of the Sharon DeHart
braved two hurricanes and a tropical storm to deliver
the SS American Victory safe and sound.

The SS Lane Victory
- A sister ship to the SS American Victory, the SS Lane
Victory is berthed in San Pedro, California, just south
of Los Angeles. The website includes a tour of the ship,
a history of the SS Lane Victory and a cruising
schedule.

SS John W. Brown -
Home ported in Baltimore, where she was built, the
Liberty ship SS John W. Brown’s website contains
interesting information about the ship’s sailing
history, great pictures of the vessel and cruising
schedule information.

SS Jeremiah O’Brien
- The SS Jeremiah O’Brien is a restored Liberty ship
based in San Francisco. Like the SS Lane Victory and the
SS John W. Brown, cruises are available.

SS Red Oak Victory
- Currently under restoration, the SS Red Oak Victory
docked in Richmond California, is another sister ship of
the SS American Victory, . Their website describes the
restoration process underway with a number of pictures.

SS Linfield Victory
- Dispatched from San Francisco in late 1966 the SS
Linfield Victory moved to Long Beach to load military
cargo. Then to Manila, in the Philippines, to wait on
docking space in Qui Nhon, South Vietnam. Then to Qui
Nhon. Then ordered to New York we made our way through
the Singapore Channel. A brief stop was necessary at
Cochin, India to drop off a crewman who had gotten very
sick. Then on to Aden, Yemen (then called South Arabia)
for bunkering (fueling). Then through the Suez Canal.
Then to New York. "We went around the world." We had
shore leave in Manila, Qui Nhon, Aden, and Port Said,
Egypt. She was a great ship with a great crew! Thanks to
these photographs I will never forget her!

SS Loma Victory -
was named for the small patriotic Montana community of
Loma, situated on the convergence of the Marias and
Teton Rivers north of the City of Great Falls. Loma was
chosen and designated out of all communities across the
state as a Patriotic Community for having the highest
ratio of its population in volunteer service during
World War II.

organization, headquartered in Southwest Florida.

The Florida Aquarium
- The Florida Aquarium has provided office space to the
American Victory Mainers Memorial& Museum Ship for two
years. The SS American Victory is now berthed adjacent
to the aquarium. The facility has fascinating marine
life exhibits and a number of education programs.

historic battleship is now a museum ship berthed in

Historic Park, San Francisco, CA - Features the USS
Pampanito, a World War II submarine, as well as sailing
